Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Tropic Olas Located?
We are in Malpais on the west coast of the Nicoya Penninsula, Costa Rica. It is a laid back but vibrant town, with a national park to the South and spacious beaches to the north. To the east, you will find Cobano a Traditional farming town that is now a booming hub for all the surrounding beach towns. To the west, the stunning Pacific ocean where you will surf and watch the magnificent sunsets.

Do you reccomend any type of exercise to prepare for TropicOlas?
The best preperation for surfing is swimming.  It developes heart and lung endurance, upper body strength, and builds confidence in the water.  Yoga (also reccomended) is great for strength, flexibility and balance.

What if I have never surfed before?
No Problem.  We cater to all levels and abilities with proper coaching, equipment, and location of waves.

Can I bring my own board?
Yes no problem and the other boards are there for you to experiment with as you like.  Just remember that you will probably be charged a fee for bringing surf boards on the plane so ask your air line about charges and insurance.

Can I bring my husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend?
Yes the other half is welcome to join you on your surf adventure if you book a private room.  Under special circumstances we can accomodate special requests.  If you have a special request please contact us and we will do our best to meet your needs.

FACT
Costa Rica has a booming tourism industry and even if you speak no Spanish you will be able to full fill your needs with little to no trouble and a little English

What should I pack?
Pack light is the best advice.  Here is a suggested list of what you need:

Any medical or personal items you may need

Good sunscreen that stays on in surf

Bathing suits/trunks that will stay on in the surf as well as look good on the beach

A hat for sun protection

sandals or flip flops (action shoes for hiking etc. if so interested)

Beach towel (there are towels for souviners at the local shops)

Toiletries (anything you forget or liquids you can not bring the super market is a stone throw away)

$$money in the form of cash, or credit/debit cards, travelrs checks work but they are a bit difficult (t.c. require a visit to the bank).  We do have a bank in town.

If you would like a more detailed list or have any other questions please contact us and we will do our best to help you.
